We’re not trying to copy what is happening in different places. What we are trying to do is this: 1) respond to the work God is doing in us, where and when we are (which just so happens to be what He is doing in others in their places); 2) find encouragement in our journey of transforming our way of doing things from old to new and 3) gaining insight into the generalities and functions of missional communities.
One thing we need to remember is that God’s Word is our greatest example of “missional communities,” that is “groups of people hearing and responding to God’s voice which is calling them to salvation and His voice which is sending them out among their surroundings to show and tell others of His gift of salvation through Christ. His Word always gives us both the foundation for and general look and feel of what it means to be a missional community. So let’s stay in His word, while also gaining insight and understanding from others through whom God is working today.
